Saturday saw the launch of the 116 to sea exhibition by Joe McGorty, coinciding with the Veja Party at PaperScissorStone. The Leeds riders were joined by some west coasters (thanks to all manc and liverpool lads who left the sun for some grim trans pennine riding) for a day of bikes and beers.
Not really an event as such but so many riders out, we decided to put on a few mini events. PaperScissorStone were kind enough to donate a print from the exhibition for the winner of the sprints, and Ricky Feather, who nearly managed to win his own prize, offered to create a custom Feather Cycles stem (check the pic on his site- too dope) for the winner of the skid comp.
The one on one sprints were pretty good fun with some big surprises through the heats. Chicken taking a wild detour over the path in his race against Ricky cost him, but only just and the final saw Ned facing Nate, a battle of BMX calf. Ned managed to pip Nate to the post by the tightest of margins taking the sprint title.
I think Nate was spurned on by being beaten and went on to out-do everyone by a considerable margin in the skid event - where were you Marek?
We retired to PSS for beers and the exhibition, premted by a quids in trackstand comp. Treanor managed to beat Nate (who got into the final 2 in every event) to his nickel jackpot.
The exhibition was amazing, as was the turnout for such a damn dull day. The rest of the evening was spent with many a cold beer, meeting lots of familiar face s and a few new ones. Thanks to Steve and Lee from PSS for putting the effort in, and all the riders who saved me from a dank weekend!
